FAQ

According to the Contractors State License Board (CSLB), almost half of all applications are rejected. Why waste valuable time when you can you trust Contractors Licensing Center to assist you to ensure your application is done right the first time! With over 33 years of actively working with the Contractors State Licensing Board for the betterment of the construction industry (we represent over 35,000 contractors statewide before the California State Legislature and regulatory agencies such as the CSLB), there is no other service that compares. Remember, if you are going to incorporate rather than become a sole proprietor, this must be done BEFORE applying for your contractor’s license (see our Corporate Filings page for more information).

Whether you require a new license or have other licensing needs such as renewing your license; require a determination from the CSLB as to the proper license for the scope of work you perform; have had a complaint filed against your license; or, have ANY other licensing-related need/issue, CONTACT US! We have assisted hundreds of contractors through the years and would welcome the opportunity to add you to our list of satisfied customers!

All Applications Filed at CSLB’s Front Counter

An important part of our service is that we file EVERYTHING directly at the front counter of the CSLB’s headquarters in Sacramento. Not only does this ensure that your needs are addressed immediately, we receive an official CSLB time stamp on ALL documents. With license renewals this is extremely important! While it may take several weeks for the physical processing of your renewal by the CSLB, the stamped copy we return back to you is your proof AND it is the OFFICIAL date that your license was renewed! This service is priceless since you have physical proof and the assurance in knowing that ‘you are covered!’

Expedited Services

Obtaining expedited services through the CSLB is our specialty. We write a letter requesting a special expedite through the CSLB. Processing can be from 1-2 weeks typically (special cases can be shorter) on these applications, assuming the expedite is granted, that all live scan (fingerprints) clear and your application is approved. In order for us to request this service from the CSLB, we need the reasons that you require your license to be expedited.

For example, if you have the ability to bid a job within a two to four week time frame (by law you cannot bid on a job without an active contractor’s license with the required classifications in place), we need information about the job including the potential contract amount, the number of employees you will be hiring, and the number of subcontractors and their number of employees. The more information that you provide will help us in our letter requesting the expedite from the CSLB. Please note, all expedite requests are sent to the CSLB’s expedite committee for approval. While we have an excellent success rate, final approval rests with the CSLB.*

*While we have had a 100% success rate, our fee is non-refundable since a rejection is beyond our ultimate control.

Bonding, General Liability Insurance and Workers’ Compensation Capabilities

We can help you to obtain ALL of your insurance needs for your new (or existing) construction company. A $12,500 license bond is required for all contractors (to obtain an LLC license you will also need an additional $100,000 bond, plus a minimum $1 million liability insurance policy).

See Us in Action at a CSLB Meeting!

Contractors Licensing Center is ALWAYS fighting for the rights of contractors before the Contractors State License Board, the California Legislature and elsewhere. See our Phil Vermeulen in live action representing the interests of licensed contractors: at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-CUY3uDQfCM (see him in action by pointing your mouse at the sliding white dot with the red spot in the middle directly above the pause button and slide the dot to minute 31:41). His knowledge and wisdom of the construction industry is sought by the CSLB members, their staff; members of the legislature, their committees and staff.
